OK, So this is what happend in order.
my boy was riding his 98 pw50 and it stalled out like it was out of fuel. I checked the fuel and kicked it over. He rode it around for another minute and it died again. I checked the plug, cleaned it off and put the bike on the stand. I fired it up and cracked the throttle and the engine reved but the clutch did not engage and the rear tire did not spin. I shut it off, rolled the bike around a bit and went to kick it over and the shifter went down and stayed there.
So i tore the bike down at home pulled the case apart and found no broken peices, nothing missing or damaged. The kick start pinion and the main shaft pinion are a very tight fit. It is very difficult the get them to function. everything else is smooth and a nice fit. I have assembled and disassembled it all day but nothing changes. anyone heard of this or have any ideas? I am planning on taking it by the local bike shop to see if they have any input.
Thanks, Ted

My sons 03 did a similar thing last year. pulled it apart and at a glance everything looked fine. the sproket that is welded to the kick start cross shaft had sheared at the weld. I lined it back up and rewelded it w my mig and it has worked perfect since. Mine did the kick start drop thing for a while before I figured it out so check it, it would run fine for a bit then die. Hope it helps.
