I just picked up a '94 PW80 for my son. I've been away from riding for about 10 years now, and even when I was riding, I was just a rider, not a mechanic. I've read stories about people being able to get their 80's up to 60 MPH or so. Well, when I picked up this bike, I'm guessin' it only ran about 30 mph at best. And it does the same boggin' down at high rpm's that most people complain about.
First, I checked the exhaust to see if the governor washer was taken out, and it has been. The spark arrestor has the pipe cut out of it, other than the last 2 inches or so leading to the output. The CDI shouldn't have the rev restrictor. At least according to the year of the CDI.
I've bought some UNI filters and added them to the air box (two on each side). My buddy had an new NGK platinum iridium plug from his sons PW80 that I'm gonna throw in there. I've got Boyeson Power Reeds on the way. I know the Mikuni carb needs cleaned out, because it's pretty grimey on the outside and when I got the bike, there was no filter in the airbox.
I'm curious if any of you guys might know what the best combination of front and rear sprockets would be for the best all around performance. Or if the stock is the best for that.
Any recommendations or info that you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a ton.
