.
I noticed that the float valve is very weak and has a different method of attachment / fitment to the floats than I'm used to.
Is there a common way to measure the float level? I assume it can be adjusted by bending the tang, but how do you measure the level and what is the standard level?

yes, I had to play with mine a lot before I got it right.
How you measure the float is you use a ruler/micrommeter. Take off the bottom of the carb 4 screws. Keep the cab upside down and measure from the top to the cab gasket to the top of the float.
Micrometer 20.8 to 22.8 mm(0.82 to 0.90 in.)
I just ordered a carb kit off eBay to get more HP. I will let you know how it goes.
