I recently bought a 2006 PW50. New from yamaha dealer. Older title, but brand new. Biked looked unused. Only strange thing was missing exhaust limiter.
Set it up with training wheels for 3 year old. Been about 5 months, and this is what is happening.
Starts great with choke on cold (although when i first got it it didn't seem to need it).
Runs good, although low end seems sluggish. May just be the soft sand.
Once it has been ridden for say 15 to 20 minutes, if he get caught in the soft stuff and just sits there, it dies with in a minutes. After this occurs, the bike will only start if I apply a little throttle (in start position), then switch to run holding open at least half to full throttle. If I let off, it dies.
If I let it cool off for few hours, the occurances are the same. It runs great until he gets stuck once, and once that things idles it self dead, it is a nightmare.
Thought it may be the filter, but I put in a brand new one, oiled lightly.
Changed the plug too (NGK refereced in manual).
I blend 50% non-ethanol 92 octane, with 50% regular (which is 10% ethanol, 87 octane by law). Same fuel I run is great in the atv's. My bike gets a 50%/50% 110 and 92 octane non ethanol fuel up.
I didn't compression test it, but would that be needed at this stage? The bike is so new, and I am the type of person that changes oil ahead of schedule on all bikes.
Any experience with hot idle problems? Thanks.
