I want to buy an FMF pipe for my sons PW50 and I have a few questions:
1. Is this the right pipes to get or are there better pipes out there? 2. How much gain will I get? 3. Do I need to modify the carb for the bigger pipe (Reeds, Jets)?
What is recommend for a 3 year old to race, does the bike need to be stock, can I modify the bike. How do the PW's keep up with the Honda's CRF 50's when racing?

You'll need to check the local track. See how strict they are about modding pee wee bikes. Modding the air box and shaving the clutch work wonders but aren't AMA legal. FMF pipe and silencer probably aren't either but some tracks let that slide. Rear gear switch, no-toil air filter and jetting are legal and help. Stock carb works with the FMF.

Thanks Scott this does help. what mod do you recommend for the air box "manufacture"? Have you jetted your carb, I may get a 65 MM. The rear gear what "manufacture" do you recommend?

Without getting into machining and porting which is blatant cheating, A large hole in the top of the air box with a No-Toil super flo filter, Holeshot clutch springs will make the bike rev higher before engaging and rear gears will really help. New gears are available in a few ratios but are expensive. Look for used QT50 gears. Yamaha made a moped with the same motor and drive unit as the PW and they are cheap. Keep the grease on the gears to a minimum and use a high quality synthetic one. The oil injection must be used to be AMA legal so lean the mixture out as much as possible and use a high quality synthetic oil like Amsoil. YZ 80 carbs have been used by some people but they usually have a 60 kit or exhaust porting done. The stock carb is really good. Jets are cheap so if you want to lean things out try a 67.5 first. Going from a 70 to a 65 might be a little much. Besides with a air box mod and filter you'll have alot more air in so you can burn alot more fuel.

There is nothing wrong with the FMF pipe for the PW50. I installed one on my daughters bike and it mad a big difference, I also jetted it up to a .70 and opened the air box. Next is a set of Boysen reeds and a QT50 rearend.

We have the pipe and it does add a lot of top end to the bike, We like it, we just cant run it at any AMA races.

guys why would your 4 or 5 year old want more top end ? wouldn't it be better to give them more power down low where they can use it ? i think the FMF pipe is obviously to let the bike rev more up top & sacrifice a little down low maybe if you increase the header length a little then you will get the bottom end lower back a little
