I have a 1994 PW-50 that runs great except.... I recently noticed a significant decrease in power during starting off and climbing small hills. Compression test was good at 120 PSI. Any ideas

My boys PW is also lacking power, struggles to climb even small uphill grades. The engine revs up but it is gutless. i removed the clutch, but found no obvious defects. I plan to scuff up the clutch and reassemble. Also plan on cleaning out the exhaust and carb.

1st make sure your resrtictor plate is out if its a new one. If its an older bike or has some time on it look at cleaning out the muffler. you might also look at getting a new top end or a whole new piston kit depending on how hard you ride it. We just put a new top end in our 2007 and its running alot better. We also changed the jetting to a 65 and put boyesen power reeds in for a little more low end

After scuffing the clutch up, cleaning out the buildup in exh. and complete carb clean, the little pw moves along very nicely. The Mikuni carb had a 70 jet. Where do I get a 65 (main or low speed?) jet? What is involved in changing the reeds?

On the sahft drive gearing, there is a "QT" gear you can put in which gives much more torgue. Coupled with a 60cc top-end that seems to wind out forever, this gives the best of both worlds.
That QT gear is widely available, do a search.

I put peeweecycle.com's "holeshot springs" in my son's '82. they are slightly stiffer and allow the motor rpms to be higher into the powerband before the clutch starts to grab. He liked them!
