I have an 83 pw 50 it developed an knock at aceloration and decell and at idle. i took it to a deler and they told me that it was the top end.so i bought allthe parts needed. now its back together its still there. the kock is bad enuff you can heir it and feel it. it goes away when at speed .is their any thing in the bottom end or drive line that could be causeing it. i just want to put my money in the right spot

im assuming you didnt change the cylinder? get an inside caliper or mic and measure the bore check your manual or call pax or the dealer and ask them the size of a standard piston. older bikes didnt use nikasil bores like the new bikes so the cylinders wear out when you do a top end on an older bike you have to have them bored and a new piston fitted. im pretty sure the noise you guys are hearing is what is called piston slap its caused when you have excess clearance in the piston/cylinder gap and when the motor isnt under a load the piston skirt is hitting the walls of the cylinder. its probably doing it when its under a load too you just dont hear it.

well thank you for your help but i think i may have found out what is causeing it the bike quit on us to night and wouldnt start again and the knock isnt their now . Im thinking it something to do with the alternator becuse i have a very weak spark it white instead of the niceblue color but im going to pull it all a part and see whats what and i will post my finding by the way it was all brand new 60 kit that what sucks about it
