Hi, I have been trying to fix up my sons PW50 (not sure of the year but It is an older model). It has never run right since I had it, it starts with full revs and wont idle (the throttle needs constant blipping). If I put the bike into run the wheel turns if on the stand and reluctantly builds speed but never gets fast. If of the stand it dosnt have enough power to move with weight on it. I have done the following to try and rectify the problem:
- Cleaned out the fuel tank and fuel lines to remove old fuel etc - Set the oil pump and bleed the air from it - Replaced the carb and air box - Replaced the coil, cap and spark plug - Replaced the piston and rings (felt it might be a compression problem)
None of this made a difference although when I put the bike back together I put a new gasket in the exhaust as it was blowing before, I then found the bike ran even worse, if I slacken the exhaust bolts it runs slightly better but still lacks power. I feel there may be an exhaust issue (it seems clear with no obstructions though). I also feel it may have a drive issue possibly the clutch. I read that if the bike cannot pull itself up onto its rear wheel then the clutch springs need replacing, but i do not see this would stop the bike ticking over correctly. I really need some advice to take this project to the next level, I don’t want to waste any more money as my wife will kill me!
Please advise
Thanks in advance for any help
Jason

To give an update i have now: - Cleaned up the reeds (made a massive difference to how it runs)
- Adjusted my clutch springs (bent them back to tolerance as a quick fix)
- Cleaned up my clutch friction pads
- Added some 2 stroke oil to the fuel (temp fix until i go to premix)
- Cooked the exhaust on the BBQ (sounds stupid but tons of crap came out, then painted it with some high temp engine paint) this also made a big difference
And now it i running allot better, it will idle by itself now. Still a bit rough though. I am going to refit the throttle cable as it doesn't seem to reset fully and i will also be switching over to pre mix and disabling the oil pump. I looked up setting the oil pump in the Cly mer manual and it requires gage's and alsorts and there is no way i can trust it is delivering the right ratio. But things are moving in the right direction. Will keep you posted!
